To Prospective Students

I am currently accepting enthusiastic, motivated Ph.D., Masters, and Honours students.

If you are interested in joining the Computational Ecology Group as a student, please first read the Research section of this site which describes the kinds of research we do and are interested in doing. My own research focuses in large part on addressing broad ecological questions in coral reef and other aquatic systems, however students in my lab are encouraged to address their own related questions in coral reefs and/or other ecological systems. Students of any nationality may apply to work in my lab. In general, students will be expected to conduct fieldwork and explore modelling approaches in pursuit of their research questions.  For this reason, field experience and strong quantitative skills (including mathematical modelling, computer programming, and statistics) are desirable, as are solid writing skills.

If you feel your research interests and skills mesh well with mine and those of the CE Group, and you believe you would be a strong applicant, I encourage you to contact me and include a complete CV (including relevant coursework, research experience, and any publications) as well as a brief summary of your research interests.

At present, I have two Ph.D. scholarships available; details of these can be found here.

I also urge prospective students to investigate and apply for other available scholarships and fellowships such as Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA), International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS), and Fulbright Predoctoral Fellowships (US students only). Information on other scholarships available for Australian and international students enrolling at Macquarie can be found here.
