The Australian Lungfish Lab

The online petition against the damming of the Mary River, which will destroy the spawning grounds of the only wild Australian Lungfish population, attracted over 7,000 signatures. It is now closed and has been sent to the Hon Peter Garrett MP, Minister for the Environment and heritage.

[Lungfish]

Welcome to the Australian lungfish laboratory. We are interested in the role of developmental shifts in vertebrate evolution. Most of our research is focussed on the endangered Queensland Lungfish Neroceratodus forsteri, although we are interested in all aspects of evolutionary and comparative biology. Our current research includes the development of paired fins and the tetrapod pectoral girdle, vertebrate immune systems, and developmental plasticity as an evolutionary mechanism.
