Honours Program in Biological Sciences

About our Honours degree

Our Honours program is designed to cater for two potential career paths: students who wish to complete their undergraduate training before entering the work force and students preparing for postgraduate work (PhD or Masters). We aim to combine both diversity and flexibility in our Honours program, thereby giving our students the best possible potential in acquiring applied and research skills.

The Honours program consists 24 credit points (ie the equivalent of one year's full time study) divided between a coursework component (Theme Topic) and a research project with a written thesis submitted.

How to enrol in Honours

Entry requirements into the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Marine Science Honours program are a completed Bachelor degree with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Entry into the Bachelor of Medical Science Honours program requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Honours applications are due on October 31 every year, and we hold an information session early-mid October.  The 2008 Information Session will be held on Thursday October 9th at 1PM in the Biology TeaRoom. You will have to complete an application form and submit it to the student enquiry service. Please see the undergraduate studies web page (http://www.reg.mq.edu.au/undergrad/current/honours/index.htm ). At the same time, you have to contact staff and discuss and arrange potential honours projects with them.

Honours projects

We offer honours projects in a wide range of biological research. Click here to see the range of research currently being pursued in the department. We also prepare a list of potential projects which can be downloaded here - please contact staff that offer projects that you may be interested in.

Timetable

Semester 1 students typically start in mid-February and submit their thesis at the beginning of November. Semester 2 students typically start in early September and submit their thesis at the beginning of June the following year.
